What's Next

Working on the initial version

We're working hard on the first usable release of Open Athlete. Here's what's coming:

Platform

  • iOS only for now — We're starting with iOS to validate the core experience before expanding to other platforms.

Features

  • Apple Health sync — Seamlessly import all your workout data from Apple Health.
  • Workout viewing — View your complete training history with detailed metrics and insights.

This is our foundation. We're focused on getting the fundamentals right before building more advanced features. Stay tuned for updates as we approach launch.

Open Athlete Was Born

In early October 2025, Strava sued Garmin, demanding they stop selling devices. This event crystallized what many of us already knew: the fitness ecosystem is broken. Our training data, our communities, and our athletic journeys shouldn't be controlled by faceless corporations prioritizing profits over athletes.

We need the community to take over.

Open Athlete is being built as an open-source fitness platform—a modern alternative to Strava, Runna, and TrainingPeaks that puts athletes first, without compromising on usability or experience.

What We're Building

  • True multi-sport support: Understanding how strength training impacts your running performance. All activities contribute to one holistic fitness view.
  • Rich multiplayer experience: First-class support for run clubs, coaching, and exercising with friends anywhere.
  • Data ownership: Import your complete training history from other platforms into one place you control.
  • Open and extensible: Built transparently with the community, for the community.

This is just the beginning. We're building the operating system for your fitness—join us.
